I'm interested in a different type of horse racing - - endurance riding. I'm too heavy to participate myself, but I have helped in events of this nature. These 'races' are events of 25, 50, or 100 miles and require training, endurance and strategy. They are not held at race tracks, rather they are held in parks or on individual properties trails. They include vet stops and vetting in before the race and vetting out after. Time is added to the individual horse and rider if the horse is not properly conditioned at these stops. Horses and riders can be pulled from the event on the decision of the vet. Arabians and Arabian crosses ussually do best in these events. Gaited horses such as Tennessee Walkers, Pacers, Morgans, and Rocky Mountain breeds also do well.
