Guest Gord,your last query on that Clancys lyric has often bothered me too. I don't have a copy of the lyrics at the moment but if my memory is good the refrain went: "Singing 'bainne na mbó is na gamhna', and the juice of the barley for me". That would translate:'milk of the cow and the calves', and the juice etc,etc. But does that mean he likes milk AND whiskey or is he saying: milk of the cow FOR the calves and whiskey for me? If its the latter it should read 'bainne na mbó DOS na gamhna'. NOW SEE WHAT YOU"VE STARTED! I'll bet Áine or Brian will clear this up.
