To say that Maud's theory was wrong and is now outdated isn't an insult to Maud by any stretch. A good scholar and folklorist doesn't mind others looking at their work with a discerning eye. Perhaps some of us are a bit too touchy about our idols? Welcome Mr. Trudell. Have you heard about the play Minneapolis writer Marcie Rendon wrote about Frances Densmore, the collector of songs among the Ojibway? She did an excellent job of setting the historic record straight about EurAm collecting among native peoples.
