Yeah, let's not get over serious about this. Although I still maintain that Tolkien was more serious about it than he generally let on.

Yes I've read the Silmarillion five times (at least). It took about four times through just to figure out what it was about, though. There are a couple of really good poems in there that ought to be set to (folk) music.

BTW I'm neither Catholic nor Protestant and therefore I consider neither the Pope nor the Bible infallible.
