"The Brown and the Yellow Ale" appears to derive from a Gaelic song which goes under various titles e.g. Cumha an Londobh Bui (Lament? of the yellow blackbird) Thugamar Fein an samhradh linn/ Summer is coming. Its a long story - but the explanation offered in the DT looks most unlikely.There are some curious translations at work. Martin Ryan
