Sorry Murray!! Forgot my persons for a bit!
"Opera" is the plural of "opus" so that's OK Murray
Just discovered, by doing the sensible dictionary thing which I should have done in the first place, that opera as a singular noun can mean pains, exertion or labour...so work it is then...
And temero, -are is a verb too... meaning to defile etc...so with a bit of imagination and bad scribal copying and stuff then temet could have been interpreted as a verb...esp when things started being copied by non-clerics...(but would actually be temerat I think)
Maybe EJ was more right than we first thought...
:o)
