I'm 5'4" & generally treated as if I'm a midget or something; I hear you about the "petite" clothes---what I find is that the arms are usually too short, or the proportions just don't seem quite right. On the other hand, "ordinary" (I hesitate to use the word "normal"!) sizes require one to have everything hemmed, or be condemned to wearing heels all ther time.

Sigh....the under-reported challenges and tribulations faced every day by the "vertically challenged"....!
