Just to put it on the map, Sedd-el-Bahr is at the end of the Gallipoli peninsula, some two kilometres from Cape Helles, and thirty kilometres from Suvla Bay. It was the scene of the initial assault on the peninsula on February 19, 1915. The Royal Navy had been in the area for several months at that time and had had engagements with the Turks already.
