Can't be sure, but I have always assumed they were Allen, Larkin and O'Brien, the "Manchester Martyrs", who were hanged for the (according to believing nationalists, accidental) shooting of a policeman in the course of helping another Fenian to escape from a prison van.
Not to be confused with the well-known Dublin bakers Johnston, Mooney and O'Brien, which I think James Joyce (again I'm writing from memory) deliberately does somewhere in the Wake - and now I just hope to God I haven't unleashed a Joycean string on Mudcat, because if I have the server will surely explode!
