As a former Naval Signalman in the Canadian Navy, my job was flags....
I didn't tee off about the flag bit, mostly because I realize that the general public has not been trained about flags like I have. I know flag protocol obsessively, and still get upset when I see a National Flag being flown that has a small rip in it.
So knowing what I know..... 1. No National Flag should ever touch the ground, intentional or accidental. It's disrespectful.
And just as a bit of trivia, on ship, an upside down national flag is a distress call.
