GUEST,dermod in salisbury Help: folk clubs in/around Salisbury (5) RE: Help: folk clubs in/around Salisbury 14 Mar 02

There is a folk musicians open session at lunch time on the first Sunday of the month at the Huntsman pub (used to be superb but I haven't been recently). There is a similar evening session at the Winchester Gate pub on the 2nd Thursday of the month. The Five Bells Inn used to have a singer orientated weekly folk club (I think Friday) and perhaps still does. The Salisbury Arts Centre in a converted medieval church always has something going and often its a folk event. Down river a bit and over the Hampshire border there is a long established weekly folk club on Tuesday evenings in the Elm Tree Inn, Ringwood. Fordingbridge also had a club but I have lost track of it. There may also be events connected with the Salisbury Festival which concludes in the first week of June. The best place to keep in touch with gigs etc is the local Salisbury Journal, and the helpful district council run events web site www.visitsalisbury.co.uk. You should not be short of places to go. The Wiltshire County website (whose address I forget) contains a full list of music clubs with contact numbers.
