On behalf of the "Folk Art Project" I would like to thank you for all of the nice comments. The people who deserve the majority of the credit are: Jeff Flemley and his wife Toni who made the initial contact with the principal. Bud Miles heads up the harmonica classes. His wife Sandy helped with the initial concert.

The principal, Debora Jones, was extremely helpful in allowing the whole thing to proceed. She has attended all but one of the sessions and, when we were short a student in the square dance portion of the program, she would join in the dance. I'm very sorry to say that her position has been eliminated for the 02-03 school due to budget problems.

If anyone would like to try something similar I would suggest the following:

HAVE A PROGRAM PLANED AHEAD OF TIME TO PRESENT TO THE SCHOOL.

MOST SCHOOLS ARE SHORT ON MONEY SO THE PROGRAM SHOULD HAVE A MINIMAL COST TO THE DISTRICT.

IF A LARGE SPACE IS NEEDED FOR SOMETHING LIKE SQUARE DANCING YOU SHOULD TRY TO SCHEDULE YOUR PROGRAM SO IT WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH SPORTS ACTIVITIES.

THE PROGRAM SHOULD BE FUN AS WELL AS EDUCATIONAL FOR THE STUDENTS.

PLAN HANDS ON ACTIVITIES FOR THE STUDENTS ~ SUCH AS LEARNING TO PLAY A SIMPLE INSTRUMENT. PENNY WHISTLE, OCARINA, HARMONICA, SQUARE DANCING, ETC.

Best of luck to anyone who wants to try something similar. The rewards are many.
