Just read the thread. No one mentioned that "It's in the Book" was a spoof on fundamentalist preaching, a-la Jerry Falwell. My liberal, yet church going parents, got hold of the record and I remember them smiling slyly as they listened. I, around age 12, sort of got it, played the thing over and over. It was all in the delivery: "little bo peep, (pause) waas, (pause) a little girl. ... and doesn't know wh-air (Billy Graham style) to find them." The song about Grandma's lye soap? It's a spoof on revivalist hymns. The hand clapping on the chorus was the icing on the cake. Me? I'm a sunday-school teaching Lutheran these days. But thankfully, long ago Johnny Standly alerted me to phony-baloney preaching.
