GUEST,Sonja Lyr/Chords Add: Folklife Revisited (Jammin' In the (3) RE: Lyr/Chords Add: Folklife Revisited (Jammin' In 29 May 02

Don't know why that post got SNAFU'd. I had it formatted the way I wanted (with the text in boldface and the chords not, and with line breaks where appropriate. Then I put the "pre" with the "<>" around it at the beginning of the song and the "/pre" with the "<>" around it at the end. But nothing's in boldface and there are no line breaks. So, here it is with the line breaks in the right place (I hope) but, unfortunately, with the chords and lyrics in the same kind of print.

Folklife Revisited (Singin' In The Stairway, Jammin' In The John)
Words & Music by Sonja W.-Oates © 1996

[Note: This is 2/4 time and each line of lyric represents 4 measures. The tune is a collection of pretty common blues or dixieland melody phrases, a la "Way Down Yonder In New Orleans," "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out," etc., though I'm pretty sure it's not the same tune as any other song I've ever heard. For that matter, any tune you can sing with this chord pattern would probably sound fine. --SWO) ------------------------------------------

(G)Ev'ry time this (C)time of year
(G) comes 'round a(C9)gain,
From (G)all a(B7)round they're (E)headin' (E7)here,
(A7) come sun or come (D)rain. (D7)
(G)Pack up the harp and the (C9)shakara,
the (G)drum or the (Bm)didgeri(Em)doo,
(A7)Sling that guitar 'cross your back,
(D) with your (A7)cloggin' (D7)shoes.

They'll be (C)fiddlin' by the fountain,
(G)drummin' (Cm)on the (Em)lawn,
(A7)Dancin' in a contra line that goes
(D)on and (A7)on and (D7)on,
(C)Singin' in the (F#)stairway,
(G)jammin' (B7)in the (Em)john,
(A9)Ev'rybody dancin' (D#7)their way as the (D7)beat goes
(G)on.(C)(G)

I (G)read my program (C)first thing off,
(G)circle what looks (C9)best,
And (G)then en (B7)route I (E)find my(E7)self
en(A7)tranced by all the (D) rest. (D7)
Ev'ry (G)nook & cranny of the (C9)Center's filled
with (G)somethin' (Bm)kinda (Em)special,
And, (A7)once in a while I even catch
an (D)act that's (A7)on the (D7)schedule!

They're (C)fiddlin' by the fountain,
(G)juggling (Cm)on the (Em)lawn,
(A7)Andes mountain melodies go
(D)on and (A7)on and (D7)on,
(C)Singin' in the (F#)stairway,
(G)jammin' (B7)in the (Em)john,
(A9) Ev'rybody dancin' (D#7)their way as the (D7)beat goes
(G)on. (C)(G)

(G)Gotta come here (C)once each year
to (G)see my old (C9)friends--
(G)Some I've (B7)never (E)met be(E7)fore
and may (A7)never see a(D7)gain.
But (G)ev'ry year it (C9)makes me laugh
(G) -- It really (B7)is a (Em)blast here--
To (A7)see the gang from my own back yard
(D) I haven't (A7)seen since (D7)last year!

We'll (C)Hambo in the Center House,
(G)nosh out (Cm)on the (Em)lawn,
(A7)Dance in a maze of "Pravo" lines that go
(D)on and (A7)on and (D)on and (A7)on
and (D)on and (A7)on and (D)on,
(C)Singin' in the (F#)stairway,
(G)jammin' (B7)in the (Em)john,
(A9) Ev'rybody dancin' (D#7)their way as the (D7)beat goes
(G)on. (C)(G)

In (G)politics, the (C)people say,
(G)strange bedfellows you'll (C9)find.
But you (G)ain't seen (B7)nothin' (E)till you've (E7)seen
a (A7)Folklife contra (D)line. (D7)
They're wearin' (G)cowboy boots and (C9)Birkenstocks
(G) and (B7)mini(Em)skirts,
(A7)Ethnic gear from all around, fine
(D)silks and (A7)tie-dyed (D7)shirts.

(C)Folks who might just (Cm)argue with each
(G)other (B7)any (Em)other day
(F maj 7)In this special (B7)time and place
(D)all relate an(D7)other way.
(G)Harmony has (C9)one strong voice,
(Cm) the (Bm)very (Em)best of (E7)all, where
(A7)music is the drug of choice
(D) at the (A7)Folklife (D7)Festival.

They're (C)dancin' IN the fountain,
(G)sleepin' (Cm)on the (Em)lawn,
The (A7)rhythm of the Festival
(D) just goes (A7)on and (D)on and (D7)on;
(C)Singin' in the (F#)stairway,
(G)jammin' (B7)in the (Em)john,
(A7)Ev'rybody dancin' (D#7)their way till the (D7)break of
(G)dawn. (C)(G)
(A7)Ev'rybody dancin' (D#7)their way as the (D7)beat goes
(G)on.(C)(G)
