Stop in the North Wales coast towns, no and I'd even go as far as to say avoid towns like Rhyl like the plague.
If in the north, I'd still say visit Conwy as I think the castle looks magnificent. What to me are the best views of it from a distance can be seen driving down from Bryn Pydew where you can see it accross the water. Funny really, I lived in Pydew for 28 years and never took a photo.
The Great Orme is what you make of it. One for me would that I did a couple of times when me brother and family came down is... Make sure you have a few drinks and some food to cook and equipment to light a fire. Follow the road up to the ski slope and where there is a rough track on the left, take it and make your way up towards Elephants Cave. Carry on going past the cave, over the wall and turn right. Gather some wood and get the fire going and while your food is cooking, relax with a can and enjoy the scenery. I'd be very surpised if you see a single tourist while up there.
