"Anybody ever book a stranger just on the basis of an advert?" Now that's a key question. Does there come a point when enough advertising has been done when a musician automatically becomes "established" - for instance, I've still never seen Vin Garbutt, who everyone says is brilliant, but if I hadn't seen his name on so many bits of paper I doubt his name would have stuck in my head. (missed him at ely folk club the other day, which was a shame - didn't see the ad in time!!!)
So, imagine I advertise furiously, how long does it take to break into the public consciousness? People like Bill Jones seem to come out of nowhere from time to time, three months of frantic publicity and suddenly, household name status!!? I dunno...
Cheers, EJ
