Wow! Well, thanks everyone for all your advice! I've been and and am back again, and I loved it! Wales is great. As it happened, we quickly determined that one week was not enough to cover any broad swathes of Wales, (and our rental car was limited to 75 miles per day, which would get us down to Suth Wales but not back to Liverpool under limit) so we stuck to Northern and Midwales, going no further south than Aberdyfi. We did make the Conwy Folk Club at the Malt Loaf on Monday, it was great, thanks Jon and Mr happy. Saw lots of castles, some Roman stuff, prehistoric tombs, burial mounds, etc, wonderful countryside, mountains, lakes, mist, rivers, and buttloads of sheep. I recommend it to anyone, and definitely plan on returning!

PS. Bron, I should have called you - we stayed in Machynlleth, or rather, Dinas Myrddy (?) with a strange and unfriendly B&B woman - would rather have seen a welcoming face! Next time.
