Aaaaah, suddenly the light has dawned. Thanks for all the answers guys. Particularly, thanks to Llanfair for the definition of 'croft' as used in the song. I'm from Scotland so I couldn't get my head around the idea of a croft (as I understand it)being next to a gas works. Is that definition of croft just Northern English slang or is that meaning of the word used throughout Southern Britain? |
