All it means is that music is no longer the engine driving youth culture. If you believe, as I do, that youth cultures are bad and unnatural things in and of themselveles -- phenomenon driven by the disintegration of extended families, family-owned businesses, small towns and community-centered churches -- this is not bad.
You get good by practicing, not by watching television.
Be perverse. Throw away your TV, and spend more time with your kids. Don't let them watch TV either.
I haven't owned a television in 20 years, and, as for MTV, well, if nobody's watching, who cares?
