About ten years ago on a History Workshop weekend in Sheffield a gentleman from the open university did a piece on the 1930's BBC. Included in this was an early "version" of the Radio Ballads. The difference was really that this was real "worker as hero" stuff - but with actuality of steelworks for instance but not too much of people, who were represented by actors. Sadsly I have forgotten his name but he was reasonably well-known in this early broadcasting history area of academic research. Dave
