Take a listen to some of the Smothers Bros. earlier stuff. Lines like "Daniel Boone was a tractor and a trailer" always cracked me up. Good parodies of folk songs. A little more shrewd brand of humor is in Malvina Reynolds stuff. Also recommend Tom Leher's adaptations. See also Allen Sherman, the Holy Modal Rounders, Kweskin's Jug Bank, Even Dozen Jug Band.
