Del Rey has been whooping it up on her new little resophonic uke with great results. Then I've heard about some friends of her's a group from New York called The Ukelele Pussy Posse which sounds delightful but I've not had the pleasure. I think it's easy to underestimate something that looks so small and toy-like. (This is starting to sound like a double entendre.) What about the work of Johnny Marvin or Ukelele Ike?

Leadfingers, Arthur Godfrey's appearances on early television with ukelele in hand helped to spread idea of playing uke like nothing else had before or since. This boosted interest sparked a sales boom for the lowly uke and manufacturers soon could not keep up with the demand.
