Coyote Breath BS: Little Scrolly Things on Your TV (23) RE: BS: Little Scrolly Things on Your TV 30 Mar 03

I got so annoyed with the "station logo" in the lower right hand corner (slightly "ghosted") that I called up one of the local TV stations. "why do you put those ghosted logos on screen all the time?" "We do that so when people channel surf they know which channel they land on." "Well, what if they channel surf during a commercial break?" (when all that annoying stuff isn't displayed) "uhh......"

We also have the Weather Idiots blathering all the time. Here in Missouri we do have the occasional "severe" storm. But they are just as bad in the SF Bay area where there are fog cycles for half the year and rain for the other half.

Each TV station now has at least FOUR weather nerds. Of course they don't look out the windows so they usually get it wrong.

They feel compelled to interrupt programs with weather watches and warnings and teasers for future weather reports.

The night the USA started its lunacy in Iraq (9:15 PM, CST) the local CBS channel superimposed a map of their "viewing" area so we could see that two counties, almost up at the Iowa line, had severe weather "advisories"!!

Aye Bobert, those "ticker tape" scrollies are the "Next Big Thing" and surely "pop-ups" are coming!

Almost NO channel or network is free of this and other forms of eye polution. It will get worse. And people wonder why I don't BUY cable or a dish network. I wouldn't spend a dime on anything having to do with television broadcasting.

I want to market a "commercial blackout device" It will sense when a commercial is about to be broadcast and automatically present a soothing image and music until the comercial break is over. In MY dreamworld, you could program the CBD to run clips from your favorite movie, video of your daughter's wedding, or other more enjoyable visual fare during the "break". If I could figure out how to make that device I'd become a billionaire.

Then I'd do R&D on my OTHER great idea. Its a device that intercepts telemarketing calls and sends a signal back to the mainframe that dialed you up in the first place. It then wipes out all references to you so that the telemarketing outfit can never dial you again. The delux model will wipe out their entire data base!!
