Unfortunately the Old Head of Kinsale is now off bounds to the hoi-polloi. It has become an exclusive golf club for the super rich. Yhis beautiful landmark was used by generations of Corkonians and visitors for walking, birdwatching, whalewatching, angling, courting etc. Unfortunately the Supreme Court decided that this did not constitute a right of way because of some old feudal legislation and so the local authority's wish to have public access allowed has been rendered nil and void. It's a f---ing scandal. I've nothing against exclusive golf-clubs in principle, but when private monied interests are allowed to acquire one of the south coast's national treasures against the greater public interest then something is very wrong with our planning legislation. Sorry Greg, this is not the sort of stuff you wanted to hear, but Fionn's recommendation can only be enjoyed if you want to see the Old Head from afar. There was even a small car-park at the entrance and this has now been removed. Anyway enjoy your visit, unfortunately the rain's been deluging down in Cork today. Slán Learaí na Láibe
