Thread Name: Tune Req: American Shaker song: 'More Love'
Subject: RE: Tune Req: American Shaker song: 'More Love'
This hymn is also in Albert Christ-Janer, Charles W. Hughes and Carlton Sprague Smith's American Hymns Old and New (Columbia UP, 1980; vol. 1, p. 581 (text, with four-part arrangement; one verse only), vol. 2, pp. 153-54 (note)). Their note says:
More Love
Anon., 1876                   Anon., 1876

The title page of the Shaker A Selection of Devotional Melodies (Canterbury, N.H., 1876) bears the statement: "Simple in Arrangement, Yet,--Inspirational" togther with an appropriate quotation: "Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me" (Ps. 5:23). The text is in prose, as if improvised for the tune. "More Love" should be sung as a unison hymn, and the accompaniment provided here may be omitted.
