Perception of color, even with normal color vision can be different under two general conditions. 1: you are looking at colored light directly, e.g., from a traffic light (turned on). 2: you are seeing the colors reflected from an object.

If you are looking at an object that is, say, yellow, but it's being illuminated by a light source with no yellow, the object will appear to be black (no light)
