It is just possible, as well, that we have all grown up over the last 25 years, and have seen the thin, desperate skin-of-your-teeth grip by which adults hold on to reality. Quite unnerving compared to a child's easy trust, eh? Thinking back on American perversions like McCarthy, the military actions in the Phillipines, the Spanish American war, and so many others, it is possible we have always been degraded self-serving fools taken en masse.
