We should really put this thread to rest, but I couldn't resist adding this update.

It seems my former employer needs my help, so they hired me as a consultant for one day a week at $386 per day. In addition I found some hourly work at $36 per hour for four hours per week, just enough to wet my beak. When I add together these earnings and my pension -- there are no deductions for state and local taxes, Social Security, Medicare, or union dues on the latter -- my actual take home pay now that I'm working one and a half days per week is greater than it was when I was working full-time!

That consultant job may not last forever, but it has been funded through June 2004, so I am enjoying it while I can. Makes a fella feel good that he was canned!
