BLTs where I grew up were made with homemade bread, toasted, smeared liberally with mayonaise (about the only time I eat much mayo, except in tuna or potato salad), good fresh lettuce and homegrown tomatoes so ripe from the garden that the acid in them will just about disolve the enamel off of your teeth. Put the sandwich together with bacon fried crisp--mmmmmm, a summer sandwich to die for!
