you can't really speed up a download TOO much, as you are limited to the speed of your connection and the ability of your computer to handle the data coming in, but, there are several free 'download managers' that are not spyware and can help in some circumstances. The Pricelessware List reflects the programs favored by participants in the alt.comp.freeware newsgroup ; it is not an exhaustive list of the best available Freeware. Most of the listings are well-known programs, but there are some hard-to-find goodies to be discovered. Although most categories will list only 1 or 2 selections, a few will list 3-4 programs.

How are Pricelessware programs chosen?

A new list of Pricelessware programs is chosen once a year by alt.comp.freeware newsgroup participants. Programs are sometimes added or removed during the year. The list is reviewed regularly for updated versions.

The alt.comp.freeware definition of freeware is: legally obtainable software that you may use at no cost, monetary or otherwise, for as long as you wish. When a program does not completely conform to the above definition the program description will have a special notation. The program may be liteware, registerware etc. See this page for definitions of ware types. Other notes such as "Last available freeware version" may also be present.
