I personally use DLExpert and Star Downloader quite a bit, 'mostly' for convenience, rather than speed, as they keep records and show me what is happening and can be integrated with my browser for the type of files I want..there are also quite decent download managers built into some good browsers, (Opera and Mozilla are my favorites)
