The actual layout I had no real problems with.

It seems as if my comment on colour schemes was slightly misunderstood. The actual colours are OK for the title page as is. I personally prefer good contrast if trying to read lots of text info, and that is more or less what time tested and tried standards try to establish.

Remember that for hundreds of years they printed books in the darkest ink they could bet on the lighest color paper they could get (and before that did it by hand), and spent lots of time designing typefaces to be a clear and unambiguous as possible, so as to present the information in a rapidly comprehended manner with as little eyestrain as possible.

I don't believe it is necessary to convert text documents into HTML, but then I don't necessarily like Word format either - it takes a minimum 30Kb extra. Of course the content may not look all that good in just plain ASCII text, but consider the RTF format - not a lot of overload, ability to do simple formatting. If done in HTML/XML, then the more "flexible" the format is, the easier it will flow to large and small screens. I do dislike the layout setups that insist on a screen so many pixels in dimension, because I use the largest screen I can afford, with a small window displaying font so as to see as much as possible in a single image of text - I'm a "page at a time" comprehender. I also prefer black text on a white background - it's the best format that I'm used to visually, at times I can cope with imitation parchment, wood, sky thingies for many of the pages if a theme is being used - I have done it myself for my Fooles Troupe Routines, but when displaying my CV, it goes in black on white.

Good luck with your efforts to find a HTML package that is easy to use and produces size efficient output. Most of them are prone to generating bulky code output, but then they do try to cope with many people trying to use them as if they are graphic layout generators.

The actual real content of the site is really what you are on about. I don't have any problem with your actual real content (the documents you link to), of course that is a personal choice.

If you want to see what happens when sites don't have any real content themselves, but just link to lists of sites that purport to, then see The Fooles Troupe Unofficial Zangelding Home Page
