Thread Name: Lyr Req: Don't Be Ashamed of Jesus (Lewis Family)
Subject: Lyr Add: DON'T BE ASHAMED OF JESUS (C Harrelson)
Yes, I agree, Lewis and Clark, Laurie Lewis and the Gospel singing Lewis family are all okay in my book:

As far as I can tell, here are the lyrics as best I could transcribe them from the CD:

The song is evidently by Claude Harrelson. Have you ever heard of him?

chorus:
Don't be ashamed of Jesus
if you want to make it through.
Don't be ashamed of Jesus
or He'll be ashamed of you.

I walked in the dark many years of my life.
My pride kept me from the light
but then Jesus came, oh, praise His name,
and brought me out of the night.

[to chorus, followed by a banjo and then a mandolin solo]

Now, I'm not ashamed to call Jesus' name [*pronounced Jesus]
and when the great day shall come
I just want to hear my saviour say
my servant you will come home.

[to Chorus]

The Lewis Family is apparently from Lincolnton, Lincon County, Georgia. The father was known as Pop. There were four sons and three daughters in the group along with Pop in about 1975. One son married and left the group. The remaining members by age were as of about 1975:
Miggie, Polly, Janis and the men were: Wallace, Talmadge and Little Roy.

Susan will be interested that in the album notes a point was made that the group often performed in PA where their kind of music was evidently popular.
