Goethe was "huge" (as they say) in my grandparents' day. I have never read his work, but I've read Sri Aurobindo Ghose, and Goethe can't be any deeper or more intellectual than he is, God knows! I seem to be more drawn to Asian philosophers than European ones, although I used to love reading Colin Wilson...

My favourite philosophy is Taoism.
