My Dad used to sing my sisters and me to sleep at night. One of the songs we enjoyed most was "High Silk Hat,” to the tune of "Funiculi Funicula" (Sp?). The lyrics I remember are as follows:One day I took a ride upon the subway -
My high silk hat.
I put my hat upon the seat beside me -
My high silk hat.
A big-a fat-a lady sat beside me -
My high silk hat, my high silk hat.
A big-a fat-a lady sat beside me -
My high silk hat, my high silk hat!
Christopher Columbo, wha' d' ya think o' that?
A big fat lady sat upon my hat!
My hat she broke now what's the joke,
My hat she broke now what's the joke!
Christopher Columbo wha' d' ya think o' that - hey!I am interested in finding out if these lyrics are accurate, who wrote/performed them, and whether the song has been recorded. Any information would be welcome. Thanks!
