Thread Name: Origins: grateful dead and folk
Subject: RE: Origins: grateful dead and folk
There has always been some debate concerning Jerry Garcia's banjo playing. Most people would admit that, as a banjo player, he played a hell of a lot of guitar!

BTW, the name Grateful Dead came from a book on folk music. Jerry apparently read a history of the song "Unquiet Grave" where the victim was happy to be deceased. The author called it a "grateful dead ballad".
