He promoted the cause of women's rights when it wasn't fashionable, was anti (Second World) war, and was attacked by the HUAC of Senator Joe McCarthy. On the folky side, his songs were recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary and the Chad Mitchell Trio. He died in 1981
