It would have been a Very Simple Matter for guest "gadabout" to have joined Mudcat so that any interested parties could respond via PM. His reluctance to do so (making him traceable?) raises a warning flag for me. The name-dropping sets off another red flag.

Many of us fit the description and would most certainly pass the background check, but I can't think of a single good reason for anyone to take anyone up an offer like that. The salary is good for a couple of years, but if you're already in a job that takes care of what you need, quitting it to take on an iffy proposition is too big of a risk.
