The stanzas were made-up, topical, roll-your-own, always comi-tragic, e.g.,

Now, there was a girl, she wanted to marry,
Her dear mother said that she was too young.
Her dad said "But, dearie, the dowry is cheery."
So, nobody worried or messed with her fun.
