Oh Mary.... My eldest son had a similar situation with a gland on the side of his neck. Warm compresses, you may find that damp warmth helps a little more than dry. And lots of fluids. Keep a close watch for changes, it may need to be drained at some point. AJ's became an open staph infection within hours of the doctor checking it. That's a mess you really want to avoid.
