Maximum respect to R T-B but although he is a good performer you get an even better perspective on his songwriting when you hear the way some other artists "work" his songs. If the songs are so strong that they can assume a new and greater life when hewn by other carvers, there must be some greatness in there. In that respect he reminds me of Dylan - in that many of the best realisations of Dylan songs were by others - for example the Nice's "She belongs to me".

Both the Barden of England and the Wild Rover do some stonking versions of R T-B originals.
