Well, Alex Statman---=who shares a name with a very fine musician (Andy Statman)---I never would have considered PP&M rot. It is people like that and The Weavers before them(and The Almanacs before that) that brought "folk" back into people's conscience. They made them interested in hearing some of the things that you espouse as "folk"--Bluegrass, et al.

Even then, people have to develop their own tastes and not denigrate artists that have, in fact, created an interest for knowledge about the "folk" music that you feel is so authentic.

In addition groups such as that brought "folk" music into a mainstream area where it was able ---as it was in olden times---to comment on political and topical issues.
