Meade et alia's earliest printed reference to 'Shady Grove' is 'Journal of American Folklore XXVIII, 182' (1915). The earliest recording was The Kentucky Thorobreads 'Shady Grove' recorded in September 1927 in Chicago and issued as Paramount 3080. This recording has been reissued on CD: Various Artists 'The Rose Grew Round the Briar Vol I' Yazoo 2030.
