We were sent a letter supposedly from the Data Protection Agency. It asked for £135.00 to register, and suggested that if we did not we would be liable for a large fine ..etc.

This shows a list of organisations that appear on the website of the information commissioner as 'bogus agencies'.

The cost of registration is £35.00; it is not difficult. Anyone receiving letters appearing to or purporting to be from the Data Protection Agency or similar should report it to their local police.

Correspondence that is really from the Information Commissioner always bears his Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow address.

Many festivals and similar organisations could be taken in by these letters and pay large amounts unnecessarily.
