The Mrs. and I bought a Select comfort (the sleep-on-air mattress) and I could not be happier. You can adjust the firmness for each person, and there are some nights I want a softer setting or a firmer setting and I get it quickly. However, I think my wife would have prefered the Tempur-pedic, and so what we may do for her is buy one of those 1" knock-off mattress toppers that various department stores sell and put it on top of our Select-comfort. There actually is a hybrid bed sold, called the Nautilus, that combines the selectable air chamber with the viscuous material of the Tempur-pedic.

The main reason we did not go with the Tempur-pedic is, as has been mentioned, it weighs a ton. If you are never going to move, or if you want to leave the bed with the house, go ahead. Pianos are easier to move, because at least they are rigid. That bloomin' mattress would kill me in a minute if I tried to move it.

I like the material - and I think it would be a great bed, but I want a bed to help get rid of back soreness, not create it. I would be interested if anyone has tried the Nautilus hybrid bed.
