I couldn't find it - but I remember in the case of the Bridgewater Three, who were imprisoned for 18 years before an appeal decided they'd been wrongly convicted of murder, the Government tried to have a sizeable sum deducted from the damages they eventually received, on the grounds that, while in prison, they'd had been saved the cost of rent and food and so forth.

The court threw it out, but it sound as if the same crafty bureaucrats are having another crack at someone else.
