In 1967 I got knocked off my Lambretta by a dog not far from Brigg .(and before you ask, yes THE Brigg of 'Fair' fame). I propped my Lambretta and sundry now-disconnected pieces of same in a farm gate and walked three miles to Brigg hospital where I got patched up with elastoplast and had a tetanus shot. I then walked three miles back to my Lambretta, tied the now-disconnected pieces on the carrier, and pushed it the eighteen-or-so miles back to Gainsborough. Started the push about 2 pm, arrived home about 10 pm.

Several weeks later a bill arrived from the hospital for my treatment. It was £1-10s-6d in old money (about £1-52 in silly money). Inlation since 1967 has been at least 500%, so my £1-10s-6d translates to around £760, which makes jOhn's £45 for being picked up in an ambulance a snip.
