Janice, I am not sure I agree with your argument (if I correctly paraphrase it) that since the songs have been adopted they are acceptable, or justified for all to sing.

Since I am not of colour (a nice safe bit of PC-speak, but not being American, I can't say "Afro-American"), I would not risk calling someone "nigger". But those of colour have adopted it.
Comparably "ho", and "queer".
