Thread Name: BS: the first record and LP you ever bought
Subject: RE: BS: the first record and LP you ever bought
The first LP I ever owned was the first Monkees album... I got it for Christmas the year I was 13, along with my first stereo. The Monkees was THE top tv show that year, and like 75% of other 13 year old girls that year, I was madly "in love with" Davy Jones.

The first LP I actually bought with my own money, was the second Monkees album. I conned my younger brother into helping me take soda bottles to the store for the refund by telling him he could have half ownership of the album.

The first 45 I owned was something by Paul Revere and the Raiders.

The first song I remember my dad getting mad about was "Something's Burning (And I Think It's Love)" by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. (Fortunately by the time my son got into heavy metal, Dad's hearing had deteriorated to the point where he couldn't understand the lyrics.)

But the first folk album I ever bought will stand out in my mind forever - it was Joan Baez "One Day at a Time". I was 17, and that's where my love affair with folk music began. I recently bought that album in CD, as it's been years since I've owned a working turntable. Still have a lot of my vynil though. Just nothing to play them on.
