Folk clubs are run by "folks". They (the clubs and the organisers) come in all shapes, sizes and tastes. Depends on the format - are the clubs you have attended "concert" clubs which charge good money to enter and where it is expected that only top rate performers will appear? In this case the organisers would not take a risk to put on someone inexperienced or who may not deliver what their paying audience expects.

Try the "singers" or "spotlight" clubs where you will be welcome whatever your experience or level of talent.

Open evenings at Herga (most Monday nights at the Royal Oak) or the Spotlight club in St Albans (various Sundays - contact Breezy to pre-book a spot & check Unicorn for dates for both clubs) will guarantee you a "sing".

As El Greco says, keep trying until you find a club you like and which makes you feel welcome. There are plenty out there.
